Áurea Ana Palace by Eurostars Hotel Company
We don't usually add a second palace-turned-hotel to the same roundup, but Áurea Ana Palace...
Aria Hotel Budapest opened in 2015 as the Hungarian member of the Library Hotel Collection, a block from St Stephen's Basilica at Hercegprímás utca 5. Its 44 rooms and 5 suites are split across four wings, each built around a musical era: Classical, in neo-Baroque furnishings; Opera, a more dramatic, modernised take on Baroque; Jazz, drawing on a 1920s club and Old Hollywood glamour; and Contemporary, a bold 1970s pop-art wing. The building wraps around a central courtyard rather than facing the street outright, which keeps the whole place quieter than its address would suggest.
We chose Aria because its concept goes all the way through rather than stopping at the lobby: guestrooms are named for musicians — Maria Callas, Frank Sinatra, Mozart, Jimi Hendrix — and furnished to match the genre of their wing, not just labelled for it. The Music Garden at the centre of the hotel is glass-roofed and climate-controlled, its floor laid in piano-key tiles under an LED screen. It reads as a hotel built by people who actually like music, not a theme applied after the fact.
The hotel sits in Belváros-Lipótváros, the fifth district, in the dead centre of Pest. St Stephen's Basilica is close enough to see from the rooftop, and the Deák Ferenc metro interchange, the city's main transit hub, is one block south. The Hungarian State Opera House and the Danube embankment are both an easy walk, making the hotel a base that needs no taxi for most of a first-time visitor's list.

Classical rooms lean into carved detail and soft, period-correct colour; Opera turns the same vocabulary up, with richer fabrics and a more theatrical hand. Jazz is the wing with the most personality — low lighting, brass accents, a sense of a 1920s club rather than a hotel corridor — while Contemporary breaks from all three with saturated colour and pop-art flourishes. Suites push the idea further: the La Traviata Terrace Suite spreads across three rooms and includes an onyx bathroom, built for guests staying long enough to want a sitting room of their own.
The High Note SkyBar is the hotel's social centre after dark, a rooftop garden for dinner, cocktails and basilica views, with sunbathing space by day. The Harmony Spa and Wellness Centre runs the other half of the experience: an indoor pool with underwater cycles, water fitness classes, a fitness centre, personal trainers and rooftop yoga. Because the hotel sits this close to the Basilica, rooms with a direct view book out first, especially around the summer organ concert season, so travellers set on that outlook should reserve well ahead.
Aria sits inside a protected heritage building, so corridors wind a little and not every room is reachable by lift from every wing — worth a note for travellers who prefer not to manage stairs with luggage. Breakfast at Stradivari draws a mixed crowd of hotel guests and locals on weekends, so an early slot is the quieter one. The hotel leans adult and couple-oriented in its public spaces, though families are welcomed and connecting rooms exist on request. Because the four wings each carry their own mood, it is worth naming a preference — Jazz or Contemporary, say — when booking rather than leaving the room type to chance.
